? WHAT IS #Junicorn2017 ?
For the month of June 2017 I created one of a kind unicorn drawings all month long! Its called #junicorn , a monthly themed challenge to celebrate and engage with the online fantasy art community. Specifically, I explored and expanded the lore of unicorns within my own IP, a magical world called "Terratoff"

 STORY:
"In Terratoff, unicorns are known for their unique healing and vitality magic. Each breed has their own specific application of this special power.

All unicorn breeds love nature, but none are bound to it as tightly as the Swift. 
Swift are able to revitalize dead or dying plants, vegetation, and flowers (their favorite being roses). So having a Swift visit your garden is a rare and exciting treat! Their blessings may be as simple as lifting a wilted blossom, to as grand as reviving an entire failed crop.

When Swift are very happy, stray petals and leaves are drawn to their energy and will follow them in a beautiful trail behind them as they run. This can be dangerous, as it makes the unicorns presence obvious. But the moment the Swift becomes aware and is frightened the effect stops and they are able to quickly vanish into the woods without a trace."

! THE PROCESS !
My process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with colored graphite to draft the idea. Then I "sculpt" cleaner lines with the under-color that I want to show through the final drawing. Then charcoal colored graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add detail. The sketch remains intact and visible beneath the charcoal color of the final drawing. 
This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the method and experience of creating it.
